The taraporewala Matsyalaya was built back in 1951 at a budget of INR 800,000. It was inaugurated by the first president of India Rajendra Prasad. The museum got its name after a philanthropist named D B Taraporewala donated INR 200,000 in the same year for its construction.

The aquarium is open for visitors from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm, except on Mondays when they closed. The entry fees for the adults are 60 Rs. for the children below 12 yrs of age is 30 Rs. and for the government employees, it is 30 Rs.
There exists some other exiting new attraction Oceanarium in the antibrachium filled with 22000 liters of water. The aquarium also consists of an Amphitheatre of 50 seats which screens the documentaries on fishes, environment conservation, and marine ecosystem.

Also if you are coming from Panvel central line or Navi Mumbai harbor line you can always change the train from Dadar and get the train of western line and come to charni road railway station of just the next station of the marine drive railway station.
